Richard Allen Palmer Sr., 88, passed from this life into eternity on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on March 27, 1929 in Jamesville, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Margaret Palmer, and grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating high school, Richard joined the United Stated Air Force in 1949. He was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base where he met the love of his life, Patsy McCall. On August 14, 1951 they were married in San Angelo, Texas. After leaving the United States Air Force, he joined the San Angelo Police Department on October 22, 1953. Richard retired with the rank of Major on December 31, 1988 with 35 years of service.
He leaves his wife of 66 years, Patsy (McCall) Palmer, two sons, Richard Allen Palmer Jr. and wife Amanda of Panama City, Florida, John Bert Palmer and wife Sandra of San Angelo, Texas, one sister Peggy Murphy and husband James of Grant, Michigan, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Richard was proceeded in death by his parent and his brother John.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, January 22, 2018 at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Stan Whites officiating. Pallbearers will be Barry Alwine, Jimmy Byrne, Jim Coleman, Deen Dickson, Robert Lloyd, Mike Magee, Jim Olafson, and Jose Ruiz. Honorary pallbearers are all retired SAPD personnel.
Richard loved God, his family, all animals and watching the Dallas Cowboys, happy when they won and sad when they lost. The family would like to thank Regency House staff for the love and excellent care given during his stay.
